ADD/REMOVE

The Add/Remove plugin works in a similar manner to the Add/Remove program in the Windows Control Panel. It allows you to safely uninstall any applications that you have installed on your PC.

It adds to the default Windows program by giving you more information, and also allowing you to remove redundant entries from the Add/Remove list, edit existing entries and also add you own custom entries.

Using the plugin

The plugin makes use of a list of programs, and four buttons.

By default the list is not expanded. Double clicking on one of the two headings, 'Visible Add/Remove Entries' or 'Invisible Add/Remove Entries', will show a list of programs.

Programs listed under 'Visible Add/Remove Entries' are the same as the applications that appear in the Windows Add/Remove program.

Programs listed under 'Invisible Add/Remove Entries' do not appear in the Windows Add/Remove application - these are generally settings used by other programs and are displayed here for your information. In general these cannot be uninstalled directly.

When you have selected a program from the list, the buttons at the bottom will be enabled. The uses of the four buttons are detailed below.

Add

This allows you to create your own entry in the Add/Remove programs list. Pressing the button will present you with the screen shown below:

Enter the description to appear in the list in the 'Description' box, and the full command line for the application to run in the 'Uninstall Command' box.

Edit

This button allows you to edit an existing entry in the Add/Remove list. You can change the name of an entry, or alter the program it runs. Pressing the button presents you with the screen shown below:

As with the 'Add' option, enter the description to appear in the list in the 'Description' box, and the full command line for the application to run in the 'Uninstall Command' box.

Remove

If you have entries in the Add/Remove list that are no longer of any use, they refer to an application that you have already deleted for example, then you can remove the entry from the list by pressing the 'Remove' button.

NB. This option removes the entry from the list, it does not uninstall the application.

Uninstall

Pressing this button will actually uninstall the selected application.

General Note

New and edited add remove entries are shown in the list in italics, entries to be removed are shown with a line through them. These entries are not saved until you press the 'Apply' button. If you change your mind, you can press the 'Cancel' button to prevent any changes from being made.
